Ken & Pat Tanedo

MTU Maintenance Canada

Born and raised in the Philippines, Pat and Ken Tanedo were working in New Zealand as engine mechanics when they happened to see that MTU Maintenance Canada was hiring for its MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) facility in Delta. They decided to apply, with the hopes of tackling new challenges in their careers.

Fast forward a year and the couple are now both working as MTU Gas Turbine Engine (GTEs) Mechanics, enjoying the learning and lifestyle that has come with their move to the Greater Vancouver region of BC.

“We’re very happy with the work-life balance we have now, the great health benefits and education our kids are getting here,” says Ken. Pat echoes Ken’s comments about the learning she’s been doing on gas turbine engines and the active social lives their kids now have. “Our kids enjoy our new lives a lot and we’re grateful to experience and evolve in this chapter together as a family.”

All in all, Ken and Pat’s move to BC has been a win-win for their whole family as well as for MTU Maintenance Canada.

David Sampson

Cascade Aerospace

David Sampson is becoming a full-fledged hockey fan, after years of being a lifelong soccer fan – or football as they call it in the UK where he was born and raised.

After working for an English MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) company in Runcorn for close to a decade, he found himself wanting more, for his career and his family. After meeting one of Cascade Aerospace’s vice-presidents at a recruiting event, he knew exactly where he could get what he wanted, and more.

In his position as a Cascade Operations Supervisor, David works with people from across the organization, something that has informed his opinion on the quality of his colleagues.

“Our company is fantastic, our people are brilliant, our systems are good and we’ve got good controls in place and ambitious plans for growth. I couldn’t be happier.”

David’s family is also enjoying their new home, becoming involved in school and new after-school activities in their Abbotsford neighbourhood. The Fraser Valley region suits everyone in his family, with David adding, “The lifestyle here is a great thing. It’s different from the UK, much better.”

Esuvat Zelothe

KF Aerospace

When Esuvat Zelothe moved to Canada after graduating from high school in Tanzania, she originally settled in Ontario, where she attended Fanshawe College of Applied Arts and Technology.

After graduation, she initially made her way to BC for a different job, before landing her current role as an Apprentice Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) – Mechanical for KF Aerospace in Kelowna.

Working in an aerospace hub in the province’s desirable Okanagan region, Esuvat is happy she took a chance and came abroad to pursue her dreams and experience what life in a new country can offer.

“If you want to grow in your career at a place where people will help you out, this is the spot,” she says. She feels lucky that her college instructors encouraged her to explore working at KF Aerospace, otherwise she might not be where she is now, learning about new aircraft as well as the many outdoor activities she can explore in her new community.
